For our latest Top Tip video we visited East Lothian where, next to the coastline of North Berwick, you will find West Fortune Farm. Haig Hamilton farms 3,500 acres of arable crops and runs a fleet of 10 Bailey trailers. Haig tells us why his family’s business has relied on our trailers for over thirty years…
“I’m Haig Hamilton from J Haig Hamilton & Sons, at West Fortune Farm in East Lothian in Scotland. We’ve been farming here for 30 years.
We currently are farming three and a half thousand acres, which is broken down into 550 acres of potatoes, and the rest is a various range of oilseed rape, winter barley, and winter wheat.
What we look for in a trailer is quality build, reliability, and residual value when it comes to us selling. We have been running Bailey Trailers now for 30 years. The first bailey trailer we had was an eight box flat trailer, which was bought back in 1991. We currently run a range of three root trailers, four flat box trailers, one agricultural dumper trailer, one water bowser, and one fuel bowser.
The biggest challenge for us in Scotland is the weather – one moment it can be sunny in the next moment it can be chucking it down with rain. We certainly give the trailer challenges with tough conditions etc, and the paint job and the overall finish of the trailer is first class. In the last 30 years we’ve never had any problems with any trailers.
We’ve been using the sprung drawbar now for a while, and also the commercial axles and the commercial brakes, and the overall ride what that gives to the trailer for the driver on the tractor is fantastic. For us the operator safety is paramount and Bailey Trailers delivers this.
One feature Bailey Trailers have launched this year is the new hydraulic sheeting system which I’ve been very impressed with.
We’ve been using Bailey Trailers for 30 years. They do everything we ask and that’s why we’ll be using them for years to come.”
